DESTINATION Southern Ice Fields

This imposing mass of ice has several fronts, one facing the sea, another larger to the north and several smaller arms. When standing in this white and majestic landscape, one feels smaller, you can really hear the sound of silence.

Sailing about 400 km north of Puerto Natales you can disembark in Puerto Edén, a town located in the surroundings of the Bernardo O’Higgins National Park.

Touring these canals, you will begin to fascinate yourself with a landscape of impressive contrasts of light and shadows, where the mountain merges with a sea full of islands, fjords, and waterfalls, in a labyrinth of unsurpassed beauty of channels that were explored by legendary navigators such as Ladrillero, Darwin and Fitz Roy, among many others.

TIPS

Even though Patagonia can be enjoyed in every season of the year, we recommend your visit between October and April, in the middle of spring in this hemisphere, more sunny days and less rain, therefore more activities to do.

Find the opportunity to visit uncommon places, such as Perito Moreno: one of the most spectacular glaciers of the world, almost a mandatory stop in Calafate. To save some money, the best thing is to buy a ticket for an urban bus service that takes you to Los Glaciares Park and buy there the entrance ticket. You’ll have access to the walkway area where there are amazing views of the glacier. The travel by boat is expensive and it is not worth it.

Before your trip, you must have in mind the clothing that you’re going to pack because Patagonia is very cold and extremely windy, warm clothes are fundamental.

Commerce in Puerto Natales does not deliver plastic bags, so we recommend you take space in your backpack or walk with ecological bags.
