DESTINATION Bahía Lomas

The Bahía Lomas wetland is the southernmost one in Chile. It has an area of ​​58,946 hectares and a length of 69 km. Declared Ramsar site in 2004 and Hemispheric Reserve for Shorebirds in 2009. It is recognized worldwide for hosting thousands of birds that migrate more than 15 thousand kilometers each year, being one of the most prominent the Arctic beach (Calidris canutus) that after its period of reproduction in the Northern Hemisphere (Alaska), migrates to the southern shores of the Strait of Magellan.

In the surrounding area, there are archaeological sites that show that it was part of the territory of the Selknam people, who supplied themselves with blubber and meat from the specimens of cetaceans stranded in the bay and the hunting of sea lions.
