With almost 55 thousand km2 the geography of the province of Ultima Esperanza is fragmented by a great diversity of canals, fjords and gulfs that make up, in large part, the national parks Bernardo O’Higgins, Torres del Paine and the Kawésqar National Park, without doubt, the great natural attractions of the area.

The adventurer’s favorite and internationally recognized is Torres del Paine National Park, which has the particularity of concentrating the main ecosystems of Patagonia in one place: pampas, forests, glaciers, mountains, lakes, and rivers, which led to Unesco to declare it World Biosphere Reserve in 1978.

The city of Puerto Natales is the province’s capital. It is the territorial nucleus and operations center for tourists, due to the proximity to the different mountain ranges and navigations to the Serrano and Balmaceda glaciers, both of them located inside the Bernardo O’Higgins National Park, which with its 3,525,901 hectares stands as the largest in Chile.

Torres del Paine National Park

This Park has varied fauna such as: pumas, guanacos and foxes, not to mention the more than 100 species of birds such as: flamingos, the black carpenter and Kingfisher among others, that inhabit the area.

Horseback Riding

This activity is carried out in different sectors of the park, crossing rivers, forests or even reaching some glaciers on horseback with the help of the Baqueanos, who are knowledgeable about the area in all its immensity. Inside the park there are companies that provide horseback riding services, as well as some hotels that offer this type of excursions.

Discover

Inland and in the vicinity of Torres del Paine National Park, you can navigate some lakes. In Lake Gray a half-day excursion is made, which runs through the lake area until reaching the glacier. In Lake Pehoé, a 30-minute navigation is carried out, where Los Cuernos del Paine is contemplated. In Zódiac or kayak along the Serrano River you reach Lake Tyndall to be near the ice floes; In the Toro and Sarmiento lakes in addition to sailing them in smaller vessels, the possibility of sport fishing is offered.
